Efforts towards responsible and sustainable investment in the food, agriculture, and forestry sectors were the focus of the National Parliamentary Dialogue on Promoting Responsible Investment in Food, Agriculture and Forestry, ASEAN RAI. Jointly organised by the Legislative Council and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, AIPA, with the cooperation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, the International Institute for Sustainable Development and Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, the dialogue was held at the Dewan Majlis Building, Department of Councils of State, 19th June morning.
The first session focused on the implementation of the ASEAN RAI guidelines and their developments at regional and national levels. Presentations were delivered by representatives from the FAO, the ASEAN Secretariat, the Legislative Council, the Parliament of Cambodia and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The dialogue discussed best practices and cross-sectoral collaboration that supports more inclusive and resilient agricultural development.
Challenges in the implementation of ASEAN-RAI were among those discussed by several panels at the end of the ASEAN RAI National Parliamentary Dialogue. The session also discussed the importance of policy coordination, institutional support and community engagement in strengthening the implementation of ASEAN RAI guidelines.
